“The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” from 1919, directed by Robert Wiene, today is considered one of the most outstanding films of the Weimar Republic. The work done in the expressionist style is a perfect example of the combination of the film with painting, graphics and scenography.
And now you have a great opportunity to see it in the Hala Stulecia, but also to learn more about its creation and thanks to the volumetric technologies feel its atmosphere.
The scenography created especially for the film in Berlin-Weißensee atelier functions as an independent artistic installation and is the starting point for the “Cabinet” project.
The first part, to which the decorations were made by Polish, neoexpressionist painters – Zdzisław Nitka and Eugeniusz Minciel – presents multimedia presentations using the unique archival collections of Deutsche Kinemathek. In the next two parts, viewers will have the opportunity to view the gallery of paintings and posters, as well as the restored film “Cabinet of doctor Caligari”.
The exhibition is open every day at 10.00-20.00, and the film screenings at 11.00, 13.00, 15.00 and 17.00
