Amount of foreigners in Poland increases

The number of foreigners who have valid residence permits in Poland is still growing. The population of Ukraine, Belarus and Georgia increased the most. Lower Silesia is the leadering among voivodships, according to number of matters regarding the legalization of stay.

In the middle of this year, less than 400,000 valid residence permits were held by foreigners. As for January 1st, 2019 and 2018, it was 372 thousand and 325 thousand people. In the first half of this year, the largest increase concerned citizens:

This year’s increase is mainly due to the arrivals from Ukraine – according to the latest data of the office at the end of July, 203.6 thousand Ukrainians possessed valid residence permits in Poland. That’s 24.5 thousand more than at the beginning of this year.

In the second place are Belarussians, whose number has increased since the beginning of the year by 3.4 thousand (or 17 percent) to 23.4 thousand In addition to Ukrainians and Belarussians, the number of Indian citizens is the highest. There are already 9.9 thousand of them living in Poland. – by 12.5 percent more than at the beginning of this year and almost three times more than two years ago.


Ukraine – by 19.4 thousand to 199 thousand people

Belarus – about 3 thousand to 23 thousand people.

Georgia – by 1.3 thousand to 4.1 thousand people.

India – by 0.8 thousand to 9.6 thousand people.

Nepal – by 0.5 thousand to 2 thousand people.
